Friends Don’t Let Friends Hat
‘Friends don’t let friends eat imported shrimp’
A popular saying in the lowcountry in the 90’s when the imports of shrimp first started. This hat reflects a magnitude of things.
Firstly, one of the staple backbones of the Lowcountry that makes the Lowcountry, well, the lowcountry. Our fisherman. Shrimp, oysters, mahi, you name it these men, women, and families keep the Lowcountry fishing culture alive with every cast and net they throw.
Second, the famous Charleston shrimp gate. When restaurants were claiming to have ‘local shrimp’ local fishermen were able to take their voice and power back.
Lastly, going far beyond shrimp. Support local. Preserve art, culture, and community at all costs. I’m not going to go onto a rant of A.I. with you or talk about the overwhelming changing of our beloved city (you can find my thoughts on that in the blog section soon) but if I can leave you with one thing it would be this; Do not be bitter, be better. Love one another and seek out human connection and community in all that you do. ❤️🦐
